Meet the Veterinarians
Dr.Laurel Bjornson, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Bjornson is from Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. Her goal from the age of 3 was to be a veterinarian. She attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and received a B.S. in General Agriculture, and graduated from the University of Missouri – College of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. She practiced mixed practice in central Missouri for nine years before moving to her husband’s fourth-generation family farm near Oslo, MN, in 1999. Dr. Bjornson enjoys all areas of veterinary medicine and obtained certification in Animal Chiropractic Basics from the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association in 2000 and has nearly completed advanced certification.
Dr. Loren Heusel, DVM
Veterinarian
Dr. Loren Heusel grew up in north central Illinois. He is joining the Broadway Veterinary Hospital team after 8 years of mixed animal practice most recently in southeastern Minnesota and previously in north central Wisconsin. Dr. Loren graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Veterinary School in 2015. As part of his education during veterinary school, he focused on areas of internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, dermatology, and dentistry. He focused a lot of his extra time on veterinary studies in school on large (production) animals. Dr. Loren looks forward to continuing his veterinary role in Rochester as well as the rest of southeastern Minnesota communities. When not working at Broadway Veterinary Hospital, he spends most of his time with his wife (Kaitlin), sons Mason (4) and Lucas (2), two dogs, two cats, as well as multiple cows, pigs, horses, and chickens on his small farm outside of Lake City.
Dr. Katelyn Evenson-Woodard, DVM
Veterinarian
Her goal and passion in life has always been to be a veterinarian. Nearly as soon as she could walk, she began trying to care for animals by helping her grandfather feed his cattle at just 2 years old. She grew up with three goldfish, two dwarf hamsters, a mouse, a cockatiel, a tortoise, five rabbits and two dogs, which only furthered her desire to care for animals and the people who love them.
Originally from the small rural town of Houston, Minnesota, Dr. Kate graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa as an undergrad in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She continued her journey towards becoming a veterinarian by working in a vet hospital as a veterinary assistant for a few years to gain more experience. She completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine with a clinical year at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating with High Honors in February 2023. After working as a small animal veterinarian for a year in Raleigh, North Carolina, Dr. Kate wanted to return home to the Midwest to be closer to friends/family and give back to the communities where she was raised.
Dr. Kate has also completed comprehensive coursework and testing to become a Fear Free® Certified Professional. As a Fear Free® Certified Professional, her goal is to prioritize not just your pet’s physical needs, but their emotional wellbeing as well. She is fully committed to reducing fear, anxiety, and stress among our patients and their owners in order to provide a happier and more comfortable experience for all involved.
Dr. Kate is excited to use her knowledge and skills to care for pets and their families. She especially loves working with dogs and cats, and also has an interest in working with exotic pets (small mammals, birds, reptiles, and more). It is her mission to help educate owners, provide excellent communication, and practice exceptional medicine to give our pets happier, healthier, and longer lives.
In her free time, Dr. Kate loves to play piano and spend time with her 2 cats named Felix and Arwyn, who were named after some of her favorite books. She thoroughly enjoys outdoor activities such as: hiking, long bike rides, kayaking, and visiting the river with her husband Evan. She also loves to travel the world and continuously learn new things.
Dr. Kate puts all of her effort into each and every one of her patients’ care, and considers patients and their families an important part of her life. She is eager to investigate illness, promote prevention, and lengthen lives to the very best of her ability.
Meet the Team
Terri L. VT
Veterinary Technician
Terri graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver, CO, in 1974. After graduation, she worked in one of the first Animal Emergency Hospitals in Denver for two years as well as two private practices. She has loved animals all of her life. In past years she has been involved in Therapy Dog work with Milo and Agility trials with both Milo and KayCee. Terri now has two beautiful Old World German Shepherds (Annie Oakley & Doc Holiday) and a Basset Hound puppy (Jack), along with six rescue kitties (Charlie, Judy, Skipper, Sherlock, Moe & Elvis) ranging from 1-year old to 20 years old. Outside of work, she enjoys anything outdoors with her dogs.
Joanna M. VA
A transplant from the Land of Enchantment, Joanna joined the BVH team in July of 2023 and hasn’t looked back. After working as a project manager at a nationwide company for four years, she decided that animals made her happy… and franchise law not so much! Switching to a career in veterinary medicine enables her to make an active difference in patient care while constantly learning and improving her skillset. Currently, she is enrolled in Penn Foster’s Veterinary Technician program and hopes to graduate by next summer. When not at work or studying, Joanna can be found either at the barn with her horse, Foxy, or teasing her cats, Captain Kirk and Crookshanks, with a laser pointer.
Anikka B. VA
Anikka is one of our crew of wonderful assistants, hailing from Hayfield, Minnesota. She has recently graduated from the University of Minnesota Rochester with a bachelor’s degree in the health sciences, but has enjoyed veterinary medicine for far longer than four years! When she isn’t in our lobby helping our furry patients, she enjoys art, snuggling her own fur babies and being outdoors, either tromping through the woods or hanging out on her family farm.
Corryn B. VA
Corryn grew up around Rochester and has been around vet medicine her whole life, but has “officially” been a veterinary assistant since 2016. While originally entering college as a nursing student, she discovered while working at Broadway Vet that she truly loves and is fascinated by the veterinary medicine field, and has since changed her major to the Veterinary technician program instead. She enjoys that every day brings something a little bit different than the last, and thinks it is very rewarding work. She lives at home with a scruffy dog named Maddie, 3 cats, and a horse.
